About They Them Friends

OUR VISION

A Friendlier World, where people are safe to dance together as families, friends, and communities.

OUR MISSION

To provide trauma-informed, trans-inclusive practice spaces for experiencing radical love and acceptance.

OUR VALUES

Community. Compassion. Accessibility. Safety. Love. Healing. Play.

OUR GOALS

To provide life-affirming, joy-centered service to all in this community, so we can feel safer in our bodies and experience more joy, love, and peace in our lives.

OUR METHODS

Using an access-centered approach to healing movement, we provide dance, embodiment, and self-defense classes that serve to improve self-trust, increase confidence, AND support healing/recovery from trauma. Our modalities include: QiGong, Karate, Kung Fu, Burlesque, Sensual Movement, Freestyle/Improvised Dance, and Somatic techniques.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2019 by Harmony Lee (aka "Your Gay Dance Teacher") with the intention of providing dance classes that trans and non-binary dancers could enjoy without fear of getting misgendered, mis-pronouned or targeted for transphobic violence. This initiative has grown into a community of healing, with folx from over 10 countries participating in classes, workshops, and virtual offerings.

Harmony Lee (he/they) is honored to be Your Gay Dance Teacher!

In 2019, they left the military to teach self-healing through movement, and they have been dancing for joy ever since.

They believe movement is medicine and play is nourishment. With their unique fusion of somatic psychotherapy, spiritual healing, and playfulness, their online movement classes provide students with a safe, respectful space for self-expression and healing.
